Jon Hamm’s upcoming journey into fatherhood has brought renewed attention to comments he made more than a decade ago, when he openly admitted he didn’t see himself as a parent.
Back in 2012, the Mad Men star said he believed he would be a “terrible father,” making it clear that having children wasn’t part of his plans at the time.
Now, at 55, Hamm is expecting his first child with his wife, actress Anna Osceola, marking a major new chapter in his life.
A Different Perspective on Family
When Hamm made those comments, he was in a long-term relationship with actress and filmmaker Jennifer Westfeldt.
Westfeldt also spoke publicly at the time about their decision not to have children, explaining that although she had imagined becoming a mother one day, she never felt completely certain. She said the life they had built together made the decision feel right, even if it wasn’t what she had once expected.
The couple ended their relationship in 2015 after spending 18 years together.

According to recent reports, people close to Hamm say his outlook on fatherhood has changed dramatically over the years.
Sources claim the actor is now genuinely excited about becoming a parent, describing him as someone who has reached a very different stage in life than he was in his early forties.
The same reports say Anna Osceola never pressured him to start a family, with the decision coming naturally after the couple realized they were both ready to take that next step together.

Hamm first met Osceola while filming the final season of Mad Men, although the pair didn’t begin dating until years later. After three years together, they married in 2023.
Before their wedding, Hamm spoke warmly about Osceola in an interview, crediting her with helping him embrace new possibilities in life, including marriage, children and a broader sense of happiness.
With a baby now on the way, the actor appears ready to embrace a role he once believed was never meant for him.
