Dakota Johnson and Role Model have reportedly gone their separate ways, bringing their relatively private romance to an end less than a year after dating rumors first began.
The 36-year-old “Fifty Shades of Grey” actress and the 29-year-old musician, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury, split some time ago, a source told People, according to Page Six. Neither Johnson nor Role Model had publicly commented on the reported breakup at the time of publication.
Their Romance Began in Late 2025
Johnson and Role Model were first linked in December 2025, when they were seen having dinner with friends.
Their appearance immediately generated speculation that Johnson had found a new romantic interest following the end of her long-term relationship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin earlier that year.
The rumors gained momentum in January when Johnson and Role Model were seen heading out together for another evening in Los Angeles. They wore coordinating black outfits while visiting Marvin, a French restaurant and wine bar in Beverly Hills.
Not long afterward, the pair appeared to make their romance considerably less ambiguous. They were photographed holding hands and smiling at one another after leaving a Los Angeles restaurant.
Dakota Johnson and Role Model Were Last Seen Together in April
Despite attracting attention, Johnson and Role Model largely kept their relationship away from extensive public discussion.
One of their last known appearances together came in April 2026, when photographers captured them during an evening in Los Angeles.
The couple appeared affectionate while standing in a parking lot in the Los Feliz neighborhood. Johnson was photographed embracing the singer from behind, while Role Model appeared equally comfortable showing affection toward her.
There was little public indication at the time that their relationship was approaching its end.
Johnson Appeared on Role Model’s New Album
Interestingly, the former couple also collaborated creatively before news of their breakup emerged.
Role Model released his third studio album, “Chuck Timely & the Hourglass,” earlier in August. Johnson contributed a spoken-word cameo to “Love I You,” the album’s fourth track.
Role Model spoke positively about her contribution before the breakup became public, explaining in interviews that he felt Johnson’s voice worked particularly well on the recording and made the track personally meaningful to him.
That collaboration now serves as an unexpected reminder of their relationship, even though the couple had apparently already separated by the time their split became public knowledge.
Johnson Had Previously Been With Chris Martin
Johnson’s relationship with Role Model followed her lengthy romance with Chris Martin.
Johnson and the Coldplay singer had been together for several years before separating in 2025. Role Model entered the picture roughly seven months after that breakup, when he and Johnson were spotted getting close during their December dinner.
Her new romance appeared to progress relatively quickly, with increasingly affectionate public appearances during the first few months of 2026.
Ultimately, however, it proved short-lived.
Neither Johnson nor Role Model has publicly explained why the relationship ended, and the report offers no confirmed details about what led to their separation. For now, the clearest information is simply that the two have moved on after a romance lasting less than a year.
